Description

Melita is a house dating from the 18th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The walls are built of rendered stone rubble, covered by an asbestos slate roof with ridge tiles. The roofline features a gable end on the left and a half-hipped roof on the right. There are two stacks: one with a brick shaft to the left, and another with a rendered shaft to the right. The house was originally planned with two rooms, a kitchen to the left and a parlour to the right, each heated by an end stack. A small outhouse is attached to the front left side, with a slurried scantle slate roof, ridge tiles, a gable end, and a stack with a rendered shaft, and featuring three 20th-century casement windows on its inner side; the right end is blind.

The main house has two storeys and a symmetrical three-window facade. All windows are 20th-century, 2-light, 6-pane casements, and the central doorway has 20th-century sidelights. The rear of the house is blind and faced with painted rubble. Inside, a wide entrance hall leads to a staircase with stick balusters. There are 19th-century four-panelled doors on both sides of the hall, and the room to the left contains a 20th-century rebuilt fireplace. The left end of the house, featuring an external stack, abuts the adjoining property.
