Description
Ward Cottage is a house dating from the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed from stone rubble and has a rendered and painted right side facing Church Street. The roof is covered with asbestos slate and features ridge tiles, with a gable end on the left and a hipped roof on the right. There are end stacks with rendered shafts.
The layout consists of a two-room plan, with each room heated by an end stack. The partition walls between the rooms on the ground floor have been removed. The house is built over a fish cellar, which can be accessed through a doorway at the right end.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical two-window front. Both the ground and first floors feature two late 19th-century six-pane sash windows with cambered arches on the ground floor. At the right end, there is a 19th-century four-panelled door leading to the cellar. At the rear, there is a 19th-century four-pane casement window on the ground floor to the left, and four steps to the right lead up to a recessed doorway with a 20th-century door. The left side of the cottage is adjacent to the adjoining house. The interior has not been inspected.
