Description
The Former Coastguards' Cottage, built in 1893, consists of former coastguards' cottages that are now private houses. The structure is made of dressed killas with granite dressings and features a dry Delabole slate roof with exposed rafters under the eaves, along with stone gable and axial stacks. The original cast-iron gutters remain intact. The building has a double-depth overall L-shaped plan, with two identical pairs of houses on the left, which are now two separate houses, and on the right, the former head-coastguard's house with a cross wing that projects as a service wing at the rear. The exterior is two storeys high, and aside from the addition of two doorways in former window openings at the front, the elevations have not been altered. The north-east front has a slightly irregular ten-window arrangement, with a slightly projecting gable end of the cross wing towards the right and a plinth. The original 12-paned horned sash windows are still present. Inside, the interior retains most of its original features where inspected.
