Description

ST AGNES BRITISH ROAD, SW 75 SW 4/134 Coastguards Rocket House - (formerly listed as Coastguard 26.11.87 Equipment House) GV II

Coastguards station. 1893. Coursed killas with granite dressings. Dry Delabole slate roof with projecting verges at the gable ends and exposed rafter ends under projection eaves. Tall stone lateral stack over right-hand side wall. Plan: Rectangular plan with carriage house on the ground floor and work room above approached by 1-plan flight of stone steps on the left. Exterior: 2 storeys. Unaltered elevations. Original doors and windows. Symmetrical north east front gable end has wide central 4-centred arched doorway with hoodmould and 3-light canted oriel window over. Left-hand side wall is a 2-window entrance front with central first-floor doorway. Ledged door. 12-pane horned sashes. Mid- floor string. Window to ground floor left of stone steps, no window on the right. Steps are approached from the right and have a solid stone balustrade on the outer side and original iron handrail on the inner side. Under the right-hand side of the steps is a 4-centred arched niche probably for former water pump. Interior: Not inspected.
