Description

Nos. 3 and 4 are a pair of semi-detached villas built in the mid-19th century, featuring basement forecourt walls and railings. The villas are constructed of stucco with channelled rustication on the ground floor and terminal quoin strips. They have Delabole slate hipped roofs with two roof dormers at the front, wide eaves, a central axial stack, and cast-iron ogee gutters. The design is a double-depth pair with mirror-image plans, standing two storeys plus attics over basements, and a symmetrical four-window range on the first floor.

The basement includes panelled doors with overlights flanking canted bay windows that have glazing-bar sashes. There are consoles beneath the cornices of the canted ground-floor bay windows, which feature horned sashes and moulded cornices leading to openwork parapets. Keyed segmental arches are present over horned four-pane sashes set in eared and lugged architraves. The two gabled roof dormers add to the architectural interest. Small two-storey wings are set back on either side, each with a front featuring a round-arched sash window with marginal panes above.

While the interiors have not been inspected, they are likely to be of interest. The forecourt retaining walls are topped with iron railings that have fleur-de-lis finials, along with similar gates.
