Description
29 and 30 Carclew Street are two similar houses in a terrace, built around the 1820s. They are constructed from roughly coursed Killas rubble with brick arches and have asbestos slate roofs featuring brick end stacks. The houses have cast-iron ogee gutters and a double-depth plan, with two similar houses flanking a central through-passage.
Each house has two reception rooms at the front, with a central entrance hall. No. 30, which is on the right, has a later wing added behind its right-hand side. The buildings are two storeys high and have an overall six-window front. The central round-headed doorway leads to the through-passage. Both houses have a symmetrical three-window front with a central round-headed doorway. No. 29 features a 20th-century top-glazed four-panel door and a blind fanlight, while No. 30 has a 20th-century six-panel door with a painted spoked blind fanlight. The original windows are set under shallow arches with keyblocks; No. 29 has four-pane sashes with the intermediate glazing bars removed, whereas No. 30 retains all of its original glazing bars and has slate sills. The interiors have not been inspected.
