Description
Nos. 2 and 4 Ford Park are a pair of villas built in the 1850s to 1860s, likely designed by George Wightwick. They are made of stucco and feature a dry slate roof behind a balustraded parapet that projects over a modillion cornice. The villas are in the Italianate style and have an articulated double-depth plan.
The buildings are two storeys high with a basement and have symmetrical three-bay fronts, each with a projecting central entrance bay. The late 19th-century horned sash windows are mostly set in openings with moulded architraves. A moulded mid-floor string breaks forward to form a heavier moulded cornice over the porch entablature, which is supported by pilasters with alternating vermiculated and plain rustication. The ground-floor windows are tripartite and feature moulded hoods.
The interior has not been inspected but is expected to be of interest. These villas are part of a well-preserved L-shaped layout of particularly lavish mid-19th-century villas, noted for their intricate Italianate stucco detail.
