Description

Exmouth Cottage and the adjoining house are small buildings that were formerly estate cottages, dating from the early to mid-19th century. The front is constructed of slatestone rubble, while the side walls are rendered. They feature a grouted scantle slate roof with brick chimneys positioned slightly to the rear of the gable ends. The L-shaped plan consists of two two-room houses arranged at right angles, each with a central entrance on the outer fronts. Both buildings are two storeys tall.

Exmouth Cottage has a two-window front facing north, with a central entrance set within an original stone gable porch topped with a scantle slate roof. All openings have cambered rubble arches. The first floor retains original 16-pane hornless sash windows, while the ground floor has later 4-pane sash windows in the original openings. The right-hand window is located within an original projecting stone bay that has a lean-to scantle roof, which is an unusual design intended to create more internal space in the main room and shows a faint Gothic influence on the front.

The adjoining house, likely built in the later 19th century, is positioned at right angles to the rear left and has a two-window front with 4-pane horned sash windows. It also features an early 20th-century gable-roofed porch with coloured marginal panes. The interiors have not been inspected.
