Description
These are two cottages, now combined into one, located approximately 10 meters northeast of the smithy at Watergate. They date from around the mid-18th century and are built of rubble stone, with the left side plastered and a slate roof featuring gabled ends. The left cottage is slightly lower than the right. There are brick stacks on the left-hand gable end and near the center of the building.
The cottages are two storeys high and have an asymmetrical front with four windows; the left side is set back. On the ground floor, there is a two-light casement window with glazing bars and a 20th-century timber porch topped with a slate lean-to roof. The right side features a 16-pane sash window and another two-light timber casement with single glazing bars. On the first floor, there are four two-light casements, with two on the left that are center-hung and have glazing bars, and two on the right with two panes per light. The right-hand corner of the building is curved, and there is a lean-to structure on the right-hand gable end. The interior has not been inspected, and the cottages are included for their group value.
