Description
Wayside Cottage is a former pair of 18th century single-storey cottages that are arranged at a slight angle. The building is constructed of rubble stone, partly rendered and painted white, with a slate roof. The right-hand cottage features rendered end stacks, while the left-hand cottage has a ridge stack located to the left of center. The windows have 19th century wooden mullions and small cusped lights positioned above the transoms. The right-hand cottage includes a central porch with single-light side windows that match those of the main cottage, along with a boarded door that has vertical ribs. The left-hand cottage has a three-light window that incorporates a casement.
An additional parallel gabled wing has been built against the rear angle of the left-hand cottage. The rear of the house has windows that have been replaced in earlier openings, with windows serving the two rooms of the right-hand cottage and a small window inserted in the doorway between the cottages. The left-hand cottage features added rear projections.
Both cottages consist of two rooms and retain large fireplaces with timber lintels in their former kitchens. The right-hand cottage has a 19th century cast iron fireplace in its side room.
