Description

Padstow County Primary School, School House, and Railings is a board school and school house, later becoming a county primary school, dating from the 1880s and designed by Silvanus Trevail. The building is constructed of stone rubble with granite dressings, topped with a slate roof and featuring brick axial stacks.

The school comprises a long, low building with projecting gabled wings to the right, centre, and left, and with a two-storey school house attached to the left-hand end. The main entrance to the school is located near the centre of the building. The school and school house are under a continuous roof. There are shallow, projecting gabled wings to the right and left, to the left of the centre, and a lower gabled wing to the right of the centre. A flat-roofed entrance porch stands near the centre, and a second entrance porch with a hipped roof is on the right. The school house has four-pane sashes on both the ground and first floors. The main range of the school features four-pane sashes, while the two gable-ended wings have triple lancet windows, and the smaller gabled wing has a double lancet with a roundel above. The lancets are decorated with alternating stone bands.

The front of the property features low stone rubble walls with square gate piers topped with pyramidal caps. Original iron railings and gates are present, with uprights terminating in fleur-de-lis. The school's design is similar to Trevail's schools at Delabole and St Teath.
