Description

Tregony Primary School consists of a board school, schoolhouse, boundary wall, and gates, built in 1878 and extended around 1918. The building features roughly coursed slate rubble with granite dressings and a steep Delabole slate roof, complete with granite coped gables and lateral and axial stone chimneys. The central range has wings, with the schoolhouse forming one wing and a lengthened classroom making up the other wing. The design incorporates Gothic and Tudor styles.

The schoolroom is two storeys high, while the school is one storey. The schoolhouse includes a ground floor 12-pane wooden sash window with horns in the gable end, and a similar window is located above in the roof space, accompanied by a slit ventilator. There is a two-storey lean-to porch at the angle between the schoolhouse and the school, featuring a door to the ground floor and a small sash window above, all under a low-pitched roof.

The front of the school is symmetrical, showcasing a central pointed arched doorway, four segmental-headed two-light mullioned windows with wooden fixed and tilt-opening casements that have glazing bars, and four buttresses with offsets flanking the door and positioned between the windows. The eastern wing at the north end was extended around 1918, reusing a three-light lancet window, a ventilator above, and coping when the gable end was rebuilt. The interior has an inserted ceiling that obscures the original roof structure. The boundary wall is stepped and coped with granite, featuring arched iron gates topped with spike finials.
