Description
16 and 17 Fore Street are two cottages, likely dating from the 17th century. They are constructed of slatestone rubble, possibly with cob rendered on the front, and feature a corrugated asbestos roof. There is a stone stack with weathering for thatch on the left gable and a lateral stack at the rear of No. 16. The cottages were probably originally designed with a two-room through passage plan, now modified with a rear wing added to No. 16. The buildings are two storeys high with scattered windows. There are four windows on the first floor, and the original door opening is located to the left of center. There is a window to the left, one to the right, and a door at the far right, which are likely later additions. The windows are four-paned sashes with horns, and the doors are from the 20th century. A rough oak lintel was removed from the hearth in No. 17 during modernization, but the interior of No. 16 remains less altered. These cottages are included for their group value.
