Description

The Methodist Church in Tregony is a chapel built in 1824, featuring walls and gate piers made of slatestone with granite quoins and dressings, topped with a hipped asbestos slate roof. The building has a rectangular plan and is designed in a simple Classical style. The entrance front is located within a walled courtyard, positioned at right angles to the road. It features a central elliptical-headed doorway set within a small porch that has a triangular pediment. There are round-headed sash windows with coloured glass in the upper part of the façade, and similar windows are found at the opposite end and on each side, with pink marginal glass in the central side windows and yellow glass in others. A small gable-roofed dormer above the entrance likely serves as a bell tower.

Inside, the chapel contains central and side pine pews with chamfered and shaped ends, all arranged on a slight slope towards the altar. The pulpit and choir pews are accessed by two short flights of steps with cast iron balusters. The altar rail and rostrum front feature cast iron panels. A narrow entrance vestibule has a shaped top rail that gives the appearance of a gallery, which may have been intended but was never constructed. The courtyard wall adjacent to the chapel on the left side of the entrance porch includes three medieval stone fragments, one of which is Norman. The entrance is marked by three granite monolith gate piers with square shafts, waisted necking, and pyramidal finials, with a rectangular granite slab positioned between the left two piers.
