SW 94 SW TREGONY FORE STREET (north-west side) TREGONY 5/91 Methodist Church -

Methodist Chapel, walls and gate piers. Date tablet over doorway 1824. Slatestone with granite quoins and dressings with hipped asbestos slate roof. Rectangular plan in simple Classical style. Entrance front within walled courtyard is at right angles to road. Central eliptical headed doorway in small porch with triangular pediment. Flanking sashes at higher level are round headed with coloured glass to marginal glazing. Similar windows to opposite end and 3 to each side. Pink marginal glass to central side windows. Others have yellow glass. Small gable roofed dormer over entrance is probably for bell. Interior has central and side pine pews with chamfered and shaped ends all on slight slope towards altar end. Pulpit and choir pews are approached by 2 short flights of steps with cast iron balusters. Cast iron panels to altar rail and rostrum front. Narrow entrance vestibule has shaped top rail over to give the appearance of a gallery. Perhaps a gallery was intended but never built. Courtyard rubble wall adjoining chapel to left of entrance porch contains 3 Medieval stone fragments including one which is Norman. 3 granite monolith gate piers to entrance have square shafts with waisted knecking and pyramidal finials.
