Description

Trewennack Methodist Church, which includes an adjoining schoolroom and associated courtyard walls, gate piers, and gates, is a Methodist chapel built from granite rubble with dressings. The chapel features an asbestos slate hipped roof with slightly projecting eaves and cast-iron ogee-section gutters, while the schoolroom has a dry Delabole slate roof with gable ends. The chapel has a rectangular aisle-less plan with a canted organ over a vestry that projects at the left-hand (north) end. There is a porch at the middle of the west entrance front, and the schoolroom is attached to the front right-hand corner, with an entrance from the chapel forecourt into its left-hand end.

The exterior of the chapel has a symmetrical three-window west road front. Originally, there were three tall round-headed sash windows, but the lower part of the wider central window is partly blocked due to the addition of the later 19th-century porch. The original windows are hornless sashes with fanlight heads at both the front and rear, except for the upper sash of the left-hand window, which is a horned copy. The central window features marginal panes. The porch contains a central two-light traceried window with colored marginal panes in the round-headed arched lights, and there is a pair of original doors in the right-hand wall. The rear of the building remains unaltered, while the right-hand end has 20th-century windows in the original round-headed openings, along with an original 16-pane hornless sash window at ground floor on the right.

Inside, the walls parallel to the entrance front are supported by round-headed granite monolithic piers. The courtyard features 19th-century ogee-headed wrought iron gates with an overthrow and lantern. The walls at the south end of the south courtyard also have similar piers, and there is a granite stile on the right.
