Description

Kennal Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid 19th century, with later extensions added in the 19th century. It is built from roughly coursed granite rubble with granite dressing and features dry Delabole slate hipped roofs. The building has brick chimneys located on the side walls and over the former gable end of the original kitchen wing at the rear left. It includes cast-iron ogee gutters.

The farmhouse has a double depth plan with two originally equal-sized rooms at the front, although the left-hand room is now deeper as it incorporates the former axial passage. There is a kitchen in a wing at right angles behind the left-hand room, a stair hall behind the right-hand room, and a pantry in a wing at right angles behind the stair. In the late 19th century, a one-room plan cottage was added behind the kitchen, which has a lean-to on its right-hand side. The farmhouse is now a single residence.

The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-window south front and a central doorway featuring an old ledged door with an overlight. The windows include late 19th-century two-pane horned sashes, original 12-pane hornless sashes on the right-hand side, and an original pantry window covered in zinc gauze. There is also an original 16-pane sash window in the left-hand wall of the chamber above the kitchen. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to retain its original stair and most of its original carpentry and joinery. This farmhouse is part of an interesting unaltered planned group of farm buildings.
