Description
Tregellas Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the 17th century, with significant alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed from shale rubble and dressed granite, topped with asbestos slate and scantle slate roofs, and features brick chimneys at the gable ends. The building has an L-shaped plan due to a rear wing and is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has three windows. The right side of the front slightly projects forward in dressed granite, possibly indicating the remains of a lateral stack. The right corner and the rear corner also project forward, suggesting that a range at right angles may have been removed. The windows are late 19th-century sashes with vertical glazing bars. There is a plain doorway to the left of centre, which has a reused granite 17th-century fireplace jamb serving as a doorstep. All ground floor openings feature slight brick arches. The roof over the wing has been raised. Inside, there is a wide straight flight stair, likely from the 18th century, and a wide passage leading to the first floor. Six roof trusses from the 16th to 17th century remain, originally designed with threaded purlins and halved, lapped, and pegged collars, along with spurs to prevent spreading. A top section of a bowtell moulded post and panel partition is also preserved in the roof space.
