Description

Benallack Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from around the 17th century or early 18th century and was remodeled in the mid-19th century, with a rear addition also from that period. The building is constructed from rendered shale rubble and features a Delabole slate roof with brick and stone gable chimneys. It has an L-shaped plan, with the 19th-century addition filling the angle. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three windows, with the entrance located off-centre to the right. The door is six-panelled, with the top four panels now glazed and panelled reveals. To the left of the entrance is a wide 16-pane sash window with four-paned sidelights, while to the right is another 16-pane sash window. The first floor features slightly irregularly spaced 16-pane sash windows to the left and middle, with a 20th-century casement window to the right. The render obscures any evidence of earlier alterations. There is a stone gable chimney to the left and a brick chimney set back from the end to the right, with the slate roofing forming a hip over the breast. The roofs over this part and the 17th-century wing have likely been heightened, probably in the 19th century. The rear of the farmhouse has a two-storey 19th-century infill with irregular brick arched openings and a gable porch with a side entrance. The gable end of the adjoining wing to the right has a stone chimney. The interior has not been inspected.
