Description
Nethercott is a farmhouse that underwent remodelling in the 17th century, with an early 18th-century extension on the left side and a right bay added in 1891, which is marked by a datestone in the right gable. The building features colourwashed render over coursed slatestone rubble and has a gabled thatch roof, with a late 19th-century slate roof on the right side and a rear outshut. There are rendered stone stacks at both ends, with the right end stack finished in late 19th-century brick. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a three-window range, originally designed as a two-unit plan that was extended to three units in the early 18th century.
The late 19th-century gabled hood has a Welsh slate roof and a six-panelled door with two glazed panels. Flat rendered arches are present over late 19th-century two-light casements featuring large leaded lights. A late 19th-century outshut is located at the rear, and there is a 20th-century porch on the right side.
Inside, the central room boasts a stone-flag floor, stop-chamfered beams, a chamfered bressumer over an open fireplace, and 17th or 18th-century winder stairs. The room to the left has a plain beam and an open fireplace. The first floor features the bases of A-frame trusses, although the roof could not be inspected. The positioning of the 17th-century beams in the central hall indicates that the current 17th-century ceiling has been inserted into an earlier open hall.
