Description

Farmhouse. Dated 1753 from a bill of sale, with substantial modifications in the 19th and 20th centuries. The walls are rendered and painted stone, with a hipped Delabole slate roof and one brick and one rendered chimney to the gable ends. A scantle slate roof covers the rear outshut.

Originally, the farmhouse comprised two principal rooms with a central entrance hall and an archway leading to the staircase, which was contained within an integral outshut along with service rooms. A partition on the right-hand side has been removed, and the archway blocked. The room on the right has been extended into the outshut and partially sub-divided.

The two-storey, symmetrical south front has five windows. The first floor has horned sashes, while the ground floor windows are late 20th-century aluminium sashes. A wide central doorway has a two-panel door with a top glazed panel.

Inside, original floors remain, along with some two-panel doors with HL hinges to the first floor. The staircase features square newels and a moulded handrail, painted, along with a balustrade that has been enclosed. Fragments of a circa 19th-century moulded plaster arch with fluted pilaster jambs are visible at the foot of the stairs, blocked and concealed on the hall side. The roof was completely rebuilt around 1925 and reslated in the late 20th century.
