Description

The Lime Kiln is a structure dating from the early to mid-19th century, constructed from slatestone rubble and brick. It has a square plan and is built into a bank on the northeast side, adjacent to a road. The working chamber and entrance are located on the southeast side. The entrance features a round-headed brick arch made of two courses of headers set over rubble jambs. Inside, the working chamber is tapered and sloping, topped with a brick vault that leads to the hearth, which has a cambered brick arched opening. The kiln itself is not accessible.
