Description
Narabo Ore Hutches are early 19th-century ore storage buildings located on Quay Road in Devoran. Constructed from slatestone rubble, the structure consists of a range of adjoining rectangular storage areas that feature wide doorways on the south side, facing the river. Each area is supported by four buttresses or piers along the party walls. Originally, all the walls had coping, but much of it has since fallen away. The hutch on the eastern end has taller walls, which were added when it was roofed over for the storage of coal gas. The five hutches to the west remain unaltered. In their early use, each hutch was leased by a different copper smelting company to store their ore until it could be shipped. A railway ran above these hutches on a wooden trestle, connecting the higher ground at the edge of the village.
