Description
Mill Cottages is a pair of attached houses located on Grampound Mill Lane, dating from around the mid-19th century, with some 20th-century alterations and additions. The cottages are constructed from rendered stone rubble and feature a tiled roof with gable ends. They have gable end stacks and an axial stack that includes 20th-century brick shafts.
The house on the right has a one-room plan, with the entrance leading directly into the heated room from the gable end stack. The house on the left also has a one-room plan, heated from the axial stack. An additional one-room plan was likely added to the left end, heated from its own gable end stack. Both houses have 20th-century additions at the rear.
The exterior of the cottages is two stories high with an asymmetrical front. The right house features a half-glazed 20th-century door to the left, with a 19th-century 16-pane sash window at both the ground and first floors to the right. The left house has a plank door, with a 19th-century 16-pane sash window above it, a 20th-century two-light casement window at both the ground and first floors to the left, and a late 19th-century 8-pane sash window at the ground and first floors at the far left. The right end of the building is roughcast and includes an external stack and a single-storey lean-to. The left end also has an external 20th-century brick stack and is roughcast. At the rear of both houses, there is a two-storey addition from the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected.
