Description
Vercoe is a house located on the north side of Grampound Fore Street, dating from the early to mid-19th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century and some in the 20th century. It is constructed of slatestone rubble with brick dressings and features a slurried scantle slate roof, complete with ridge tiles and gable ends. The gable end stacks have brick shafts.
The house has a double depth plan, with a larger principal room on the front right and a smaller one on the front left, and an off-centre entrance to the left. The rear service rooms are single-storey with a loft, and the room on the right is heated by a stack located on the right side.
The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical three-window front. The ground floor has a 20th-century half-glazed door set off-centre to the left, accompanied by a fanlight with decorative glazing bars and a round brick arch with a keystone. There are early 20th-century square bay windows on both the right and left, each with three large front lights and sidelights, topped with hipped tiled roofs. On the first floor, there are 19th-century 16-pane sash windows on the right and left, with a central blind window, all featuring cambered brick arches with keystones. The right end of the house has a 19th-century two-light three-pane casement window in the loft of the service range. The interior has not been inspected.
