Description

Roskear is a house located on the north side of Grampound Fore Street, possibly dating from the early 18th century. It was remodeled around the mid-19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of stone rubble with granite dressings and features a bitumenised slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. A brick chimney stack is located at the right gable end.

The house has a two-room plan, with one room at the front and another at the rear on the right side, while the entrance is situated on the left. The rooms on the right are heated by the gable end stack. There is a doorway on the left side of the front that leads to an open passage running along the left side of the house. The room above the passage belongs to the adjoining house on the left, known as Godfrey's.

The exterior is two storeys high and features a nearly symmetrical two-window front. The ground floor includes the passage doorway on the left, which has a flat granite arch and voussoirs. To the right is a 20th-century half-glazed door with an overlight, alongside a 19th-century 16-pane sash window, both with flat arches and voussoirs. The first floor has two 19th-century 16-pane sash windows, also with flat arches and voussoirs. Inside the passage on the left side, there is a 20th-century four-panelled door with an overlight, and the passage itself has weatherboarded sides. At the rear of the main house, there is a 20th-century two-light casement window at ground floor level, featuring a chamfered timber lintel that extends over the window and across the entrance to the passage. The interior was not accessible during the survey conducted in September 1987.
