Description
This house, located immediately west of Penwyn House, dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations in the late 19th century, along with a few more recent changes. It is constructed of slatestone rubble with granite dressings and quoins, topped with an asbestos slate roof featuring ridge tiles and gable ends. The building has gable end stacks with brick shafts.
The house has a double depth plan, with a central entrance and principal rooms on the front left and right, both of equal size, and shallow service rooms at the rear. The exterior is two storeys high and nearly symmetrical, featuring a three-window front. On the ground floor, there is a central 19th-century six-panelled door with an overlight and granite voussoirs. To the right, there is an early 19th-century 20-pane sash window with granite voussoirs, while to the left, there is a late 19th-century canted bay window with four round-arched lights forming a Lombard frieze, topped with a cornice.
On the first floor, all windows are early 19th-century sashes, including a central 16-pane sash with 20-pane sashes on either side, all with granite voussoirs. The right end of the house is attached to the adjoining property, while the left end is blind. At the rear, there is a single-storey lean-to added in the late 19th century, featuring a two-light six-pane casement on the left side. The rear also has a central 20th-century eight-pane sash window lighting the stair, with 19th-century two-light three-pane casements on either side. The ground floor includes a 20th-century door in a 20th-century porch, with a late 19th-century four-pane sash window to the left. The lean-to on the right has a 20th-century two-light casement window at the rear. The interior is not accessible for viewing.
