Description
Trevail is a house dating from the early 19th century, with later alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from stuccoed stone rubble and features a 20th-century tiled roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. The building has a gable end stack on the right with a brick shaft and another stack at the rear left. The layout is a double depth plan, with a central entrance leading to principal rooms on the front right and left. The rear right contains the kitchen, while the rear left has an unheated dairy that was extended in the late 19th century with a two-storey rear wing.
The exterior is two storeys high on a plinth, presenting a symmetrical three-window front with rusticated pilasters and a band course. The ground floor features a central 20th-century panelled door that is recessed, flanked by early 19th-century pilasters and a cornice. On either side of the door are early 19th-century 20-pane sashes with keystones. The first floor has a central early 19th-century 16-pane sash, with 20-pane sashes on either side, all set in plain reveals. The right end of the house is adjacent to the neighbouring property, while the left end has a late 19th-century canted bay at ground floor level on the right, featuring margin-glazed sashes, and a 16-pane sash on the left. The first floor includes a 12-pane sash on the left and another 12-pane sash at attic level. The left rear wing is clad in asbestos slate at first floor level. The rear of the house has a 20th-century window at ground floor level on the left and a 16-pane sash at first floor level. The late 19th-century addition forms a shallow wing on the right, covered in wooden shingles, with a porch set in the angle to the main range. The rear of this wing includes two 20th-century windows and a 2-light casement at ground floor level, along with a triple round-arched late 19th-century sash at first floor level and a 12-pane sash, topped with three small gables.
Inside, the rear passage between the kitchen and dairy is paved with granite. The dairy features a slate-paved floor and slate shelves. A straight stair with stick balusters and a moulded handrail is located at the rear centre. There is a round arch with panelled sides between the front passage and the rear. On the first floor, all doors are 19th-century four-panelled doors.
