Description
Churchtown Cottages is a pair of attached houses built in the late 18th century, with 19th century and later alterations. The cottages are constructed from slatestone rubble, with the upper level at the front being slate-hung. They feature a slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends, along with gable end stacks. The design includes a one-room plan for each house, with each room heated by a gable end stack. There is a single storey lean-to attached to the left side.
The exterior consists of two storeys and a three-window range, with all windows being 12-pane sashes that include margin glazing. On the left, there is a plain door with a pitched slate hood and a 6-pane casement window. To the right, there is a 20th century brick porch and a 2-light casement window. The left end features a single storey lean-to with a 2-light casement window that has a brick head, and a 6-pane light is located to the front of the lean-to. Inside the lean-to, there is an external stack with a curved oven at the base, and two granite piers are incorporated into the end wall. The right end of the building is slate-hung at the upper level.
At the rear, there are two 2-light casements on the first floor, a plain door to the left, and a small 2-light casement set under a flat stone arch. Off-centre to the right is a 2-light 8-pane casement, and at the far right end is a panelled 19th century door with an overlight and timber lintel. The interior has not been inspected.
