Description
The gateway at the western entrance to the churchyard of the Church of St Melor, along with the churchyard cross located on the north side of the gateway, is likely from the 19th century and incorporates some materials from the 16th century. It is constructed from granite. The gateway features a short granite ashlar wall with granite coping, standing about 1.5 metres high and approximately 2 metres long on each side. There is a central coffin rest topped with a granite monolith. The pathway is ridged granite. Above the gateway, there is a plain iron overthrow that supports a 20th-century lamp. The gates are made of cast iron from the 19th century and have trefoil finials at the top and mid rails. The cross is a granite monolith, standing about 1.2 metres high, roughly hewn, with a hole through the shaft and a trefoil-shaped head.
