Description
Mornick Farmhouse (east) is a farmhouse dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of stone rubble with large granite quoins and features slate-hung walls on the first floor of the southwest front. The farmhouse has a slate roof with gable ends that extend down over an integral outshut at the rear. There are stone rubble stacks on the gable ends and a stone rubble lateral stack at the rear, which is partly rendered and raised. The building is two rooms wide with a wide through passage stair hall, and it has a double depth plan that likely includes a buttery and pantry in the rear outshut.
The farmhouse is two storeys tall with a symmetrical three-window front. On the ground floor, there are two early 20th-century two-light casements and a panelled door beneath a slate hood. Above, there are three early 20th-century two-light casements with timber lintels. There are also casements at the rear. Adjoining the northwest gable end is a bank barn that extends at right angles toward the northeast. The interior has not been inspected, but the unaltered rear is considered as important as the front, making this farmhouse a good example of its plan type.
