Description

Bart-Liver Farmhouse is a farmhouse with garden walls, iron railings, and a gate to the south, dating from the late 18th century, with a 17th-century rear wing that was remodeled in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of shale rubble with granite dressings, topped by a half-hipped Delabole slate roof and featuring brick chimneys on the side walls. It has an L-shaped plan, with an outshut to the 17th-century wing and a single-storey extension at right angles to the wing.

The south front is two storeys high and has three windows. The central entrance features a six-panel door with a lead-covered hood supported by corbels. Other openings are slightly arched, with granite jambstones and voussoirs. The ground floor has paired 12-pane sash windows, while the first floor has paired 9-pane sashes, with a 9-pane sash window above the door. The two-storey west front of the rear wing has irregular openings and a large external 17th-century chimney on the left gable. The hipped end of the main block on the right projects slightly and incorporates older walling.

Inside, much of the late 18th-century detail remains, including freestone flagged floors, a kitchen, a chimney piece with a fluted frieze, an open-welled staircase, four-panel doors on the ground floor, and two-panel doors on the first floor. The property also features a coped front garden wall connected to a low wall with iron railings over granite copings and an iron gate. At the back, there is a courtyard made of shale rubble and cob, with an open-fronted inlay on granite posts.
