4/345 Tolcarne Farm Cottage - II

Small house. Possibly C17 or C18 incorporating some C17 masonry from former house possibly on the same site, roof heightened in the C20. Painted rubble walls. Asbestos slate roof. Dressed granite stacks over the gable ends. Plan: C18 part has 2 rooms (now 1 room), parlour on the left and hall/kitchen on the right. Later C18 or C19 heated lean-to on the right and C19 lean-tos at the rear. On the left is ruinous former house or bakehouse with domed granite oven in its fireplace. Exterior: 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 2 window south front with central doorway. C20 porch, C19 inner ledged door. C20 horned sashes. Original openings to ground floor, enlarged openings to first floor. Interior: 3 probably C18 granite fireplaces. Large fireplace in original hall/kitchen has domed oven, straight chamfered lintel and hollow chamfered jamb on the left; parlour fireplace has 1 chamfered jamb. Other visible features are C19 or C20.
