Description
The building is an engine house, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It features a granite ashlar bob wall, with the rest constructed from granite rubble and granite dressings. The chimney is made of rubble with a brick upper stage, sitting over a dressed granite collar. The structure has a rectangular one-room plan and appears to have been converted for different use, possibly into a pair of houses, around the late 19th century. During this conversion, the original studwork wall on the second floor over the bob wall was replaced with granite rubble, and new window openings were created in the right-hand wall. The chimney is round in plan and is located behind the rear left-hand corner of the building. The engine house is currently roofless and has a lean-to on the left side.
The exterior consists of three storeys above a basement. There are original openings as well as some openings from the late 19th century, although some masonry has fallen. The front bob wall features a central round-headed opening. The right-hand side wall has a pair of doorways at the middle of the ground floor, with original openings above and later openings on either side on each floor. The interior has had its machinery, floors, and roof removed.
