GRADE-RUAN SW 71 SW 9/1 Anvoaza II

Farmhouse, mid C19. Stone rubble walls with granite lintels to openings. Hipped slate roof with 2 brick stacks. 2 storeys, asymmetrical. 4 window front. Ground floor with three 12-pane sash windows and late C19 rubble stone porch with slate hipped roof to right of centre, partly glazed C19 door. Four 12-pane sash windows above ground floor openings. 2 ornate stepped brick stacks in ridge near centre. Fireplace in room on left has early C17 carved oak chimney-piece with very elaborate carved oak overmantle. The upper part is divided into 3 panels and includes 2 perspectives of rusticated round arched openings with inlaid panelled doors and central moulded panel flanked by debased Ionic pilasters supporting a modillion cornice and with a pulvinated frieze of scrapwork beneath the shelf which is supported on rusticated pilasters flanking the fireplace. This is said to have been brought from another house in the late C19. Included in listing for overmantle.
