Description

Hole Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 17th century, with later alterations in the late 18th century and 19th century. It has a rubble core that is rendered and roughcast, and it is whitewashed with a hipped slate roof and brick stacks. The building has a long single room depth plan, with a lobby entrance to the right and a two-storey porch that projects over the door opening. This lobby is situated next to a stack that heats the rooms on either side. The room on the right is a small parlour, while the left side contains a kitchen with a large fireplace. Beyond the kitchen is a hall with a rear lateral stack, and further to the left is an inner room with an axial stack, along with an additional room of unknown purpose to the left of this. In the 20th century, the left room and the inner room were altered, and a door opening into the hall from the outside was blocked.

The exterior features a two-storey long front with a layout of three bays, four bays, one bay, and one bay. It has 2 and 3-light casements with glazing bars, all dating from the 19th century, as well as four sash windows on the right side, which have 9 and 12 panes and exposed sash boxes. The eighth window from the left is located in the projecting two-storeyed porch, which has a front-facing gable. The door opening features a six-panelled door.

Inside, the parlour to the right is featureless, while the kitchen contains a fireplace with a bressumer that has a chamfer. The hall has a rear lateral stack with a chamfered bressumer that features step stops, and there is a chamfered axial ceiling beam with similar stops. Part of the collar-beam roof from the 17th century survives, but the remainder of the roof was replaced in the 19th century.
