Description

St Ruan's Well is a holy well with lead housing dating from around the 15th century. It was restored in the mid-19th century. The structure is built of rubble stone with stone quoins around the opening. It features a round arched opening in the gable end beneath a shallow pitched roof made of corbelled rubble stone. Inside, there is a barrel vault with an empty niche below a four-centred arch in the back wall, along with a rectangular opening to the well. An engraving of the well before its restoration can be found in C. A. Johns' "A Week at the Lizard."
