2/111 Quay and adjoining waterfront - walling

Quay and adjoining waterfront walling. C18. Vertically set dry shale rubble with some granite copings, slightly battered, dressed granite steps. Plan: waterfront revetment walling with triangular quay projecting to north-west with rounded spur projecting west of its outer corner; flight of steps in each angle of the west (sheltered) side; the walls follow the shoreline for a considerable distance on either side of the main quay. This quay is constructed on a principle of construction said to have been introduced from The Low Countries in the C17. It is weathered but in remarkable condition.
