Description

The walls at Nangitha are garden walls, partly remaining from fish cellars, dating from the 18th century. They are constructed of stone rubble and cob, topped with scantle slate and clay tile copings. The walls enclose three sides of the garden in front of Nangitha and form a rectangular enclosure on the left. The wall along the west side is built above the quay walling and features a row of beam holes on the landward side, which are remnants from its use as fish cellars that included a pilchard pressing floor. Adjacent to the left are former fish cellars known as The Old Pilchard Shed, which have been converted into a house and altered in the 20th century, but still retain some 18th century crested clay ridge tiles.
