Description
The building is a kennels, likely constructed in the late 19th to early 20th century. It features rock-faced shale and granite brought to course, with granite sills and lintels. The roof is made of scantle slate and has stone chimneys over the rear gable ends of cross wings, along with shaped wooden barge boards that include foils and pierced roundels on the front gable ends. The structure has a U-shaped plan with three identical exercise pens within the U. The north-west front is single storey and symmetrical, with a 1:3:1 bay arrangement. The central bays each have a central doorway fitted with divided stable-type ledged doors. The projecting wings on the left and right have panes. The front features three identical pens with low granite coped partitions and front walls topped with wrought iron railings. The bars are looped into double round arched heads, likely to prevent dogs from escaping. The doorways include low iron wicket gates. This building is a complete example of a purpose-built dog kennels.
