Description

Geen Millhouse and the adjoining buildings are a miller's house and associated structures from the early 19th century, possibly built on older ground floor walls, with later 19th-century extensions. The buildings are constructed from shale rubble, granite, and brick, topped with a scantle slate roof and featuring brick gable chimneys. The main house has a symmetrical two-room double depth plan and stands two storeys high with three windows on the front. It has a panelled central door, which is sheltered by a 20th-century porch, flanked by twenty-pane sash windows. The walls are accented with irregular granite quoins that rise halfway up. The first-floor windows are two-light, sixteen-paned casements. All openings have slight arches and are supported by gauged bricks. The hide eaves are held up by shaped wooden brackets, each ending with a granite cavetto moulded corbel. To the right, there is a shale rubble extension that is slightly set back, standing one and a half storeys tall, featuring a two-light, twelve-paned casement on the ground floor and a rounded corner, with an asbestos slate roof. The interior has not been inspected. The building has large end stacks with diagonal brick shafts, with three shafts on the right side and two on the left.
