Description

The Post Office, Forge Cottage, and Trestrayle Cottage in Tresillian is a house that includes a shop, cottages, and a workshop, likely built in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from shale rubble with granite dressings and features an asbestos slate roof with gable ends. It has brick chimneys, one on the gable and one axial. The structure is a long range with a double depth plan and stands two storeys high, comprising a five-window range.

On the ground floor to the left is a Victorian double fronted shop, possibly original, with arch-headed lights, although the original fascia is obscured by a later sign. Above the shop are two 16-paned wooden sash windows. The adjoining cottage has similar windows, with a door to the left of the first cottage and another door to the right of the second cottage. The adjoining workshop to the right features a door on the left and an opening on the right, with a first-floor window above the door and a loading door to the right. All openings are framed with granite jambstones and have slightly cambered granite arches.

This building is an interesting and unaltered example of artisan cottages, complete with a contemporary shop front and workshop. The interior has not been inspected. The property is included for its group value.
