Description
Tregeagle Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse with a mid-19th century wing added to the front. The construction materials vary, including stucco, shale rubble, and cob, with Delabole and scantle slate roofs and brick chimneys. The house has an L-shaped layout. The 19th-century wing is two storeys high and has two windows, featuring 12-paned sash windows, one on the east ground floor with sidelights. A front door is situated on the right in the angle, with a pediment supported by consoles. The wing has a hipped roof with an overmoulded eaves cornice and a chimney on the west wall.
The original south front, dating from the 17th century, is partially obscured by the 19th-century wing. Hidden windows on the left side are now incorporated into internal cupboards. The ground floor now features a 16-paned sash window where a front door previously stood, and a 3-light 20th-century window in a widened opening to the right. The first-floor windows are tall 12-paned sashes. An external gable stack is located at the lower end to the right.
Inside the 19th-century wing, there is a moulded cornice in the ground floor room and an open well staircase with a wreathed mahogany handrail over the newel post. The 17th-century section retains a slate-flagged floor in the cross passage and second stair area, with post-and-panel screens and a bowtell moulded partition to the first floor. Other original features include chamfered oak ceiling joists in a lower room and a pegged roof structure.
