Description
This early 19th-century shop and adjoining cottage form part of a row. The building is constructed from shale rubble walls with dressed granite quoins, jambstones, and lintels, and has hipped scantle slate roofs that run at right angles to the front. The plan comprises a shop on the left, now incorporating a former service room at the rear, and a one-room-wide cottage to the right, with a further service room behind it. A 20th-century single-storey extension is located on the lower ground floor at the rear. The shop has a single-storey, double-fronted window on the left, and a low two-storey, one-window cottage to the right. The shop’s central doorway has a deeply set overlight flanked by a pair of quadrant-plan, bowed 16-pane windows, all set under deep eaves. The cottage features a doorway with 20th-century ledged doors to the left of the middle window and a window above the middle window. The windows are bowed 12-pane casements. The interior has not been inspected. The building contributes to the unspoiled character of the village and its proximity to the church.
