Description

The Rockies is a house in a row, likely built in the 18th century. It features painted rubble and painted rendered cob with slate sills. The roof is made of scantle slate, sloping slightly lower at the rear, and has brick chimneys over the gable ends, adjacent to Rockaway on the left and Sunnyside on the right.

The layout includes a parlour on the left and a larger kitchen living-room on the right, with a passage in between that leads to the stairs and shallower service rooms at the back. The ground slopes down to the right and rear. The building has two storeys and an irregular three-window front facing northwest. The doorway is slightly left of centre and has a 20th-century door. The left-hand window now features a 20th-century door as well. The other windows are horizontal sliding two-light sashes from the late 18th to early 19th century, each with six panes per light. On the first floor, the two right-hand windows are grouped together, possibly indicating that this room was used for spinning.

Although the interior has not been inspected, it is said to retain some original features. The Rockies is part of a group of houses that have seen little alteration and are arranged around a village square, which is a rare characteristic in Cornwall.
