Description

Spring Cottage is a small house dating to the 17th century. It is constructed of cob with a Delabole slate roof and brick gable chimneys. The house originally comprised three rooms and has two storeys with three windows. The openings are irregularly spaced and have timber lintels. The north wall features two twelve-paned casement windows. Some openings show signs of alteration. The south wall has irregular window openings and a door within a 20th-century single-storey wing. An external chimney breast is located at the lower west end and incorporates a small fire window. Inside, there’s an enormous open hearth at the lower end, with a recess on the south side. A 17th-century three-panel door connects the upper rooms, featuring moulding in the framing around the panels with run-out stops. The interior also includes chamfered oak ceiling joists and feet of the principal rafters.
