Description

Vine Cottage is an 18th-century cottage located in Probus. The ground floor is built of whitewashed shale rubble, while the upper floor is of cob construction. It has timber lintels and a thatched roof with brick chimneys set over the gable walls. The cottage originally comprised two rooms, arranged on two storeys with two windows. A central doorway leads to a 20th-century door with ten panes of glass. The windows are two-light and contain sixteen panes of bottle end crown glass. The cob texture is particularly evident on the east gable. The interior is simple, featuring fireplaces in both ground floor rooms. A straight flight staircase is situated slightly to the left of centre, leading to a landing with two steps accessing the first-floor rooms. The roof structure is held in place by nails.
