Description

Cornish Mount is a pair of cottages that were formerly known as the Bell Inn. They date from the 17th or 18th century, with a rear wing added in the 18th century and an early 19th-century extension. The building has been remodelled in the early 19th century, reusing a 16th-century doorway. It is constructed of slate stone with a scantle slate roof and features brick gable chimneys. Originally, the cottages had a three-room layout, with the 18th-century gabled wing at the rear and the early 19th-century extension to the right.

The structure is two storeys high and has four windows across the front. The ground floor consists of a window, a door, another window, a second door, and two more windows. The left door features reused 16th-century moulded jambs and a four-centred arched head with a 19th-century granite hood mould. The other doorframe, likely from the 19th century, has a four-centred granite arch and jambs with a flat chamfer, along with a similar hood mould. Three of the ground floor windows are three-light casements with 24 panes, while the two-light window to the right has 12 panels, all set under flat stone arches.

The three first-floor windows were raised when the roof was heightened in the 19th century and have 16-paned two-light casements beneath dormered gables. The original roof was likely thatched. The rear wall of the lower left room has cob walling, which may indicate the position of a removed wing. Inside, the second room and the wing feature open beamed ceilings, and the fireplace in the second room is located on the back wall. A cobbled pavement runs alongside the road.
