Description
Trethowa is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, constructed of shale rubble and cob, featuring timber lintels and an asbestos slate roof. The building has a gable brick chimney on the left and a hip roof on the right. It has a three-room plan with a later wing added to the rear. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a front with four windows. The windows include 20-pane sashes, with a 16-pane sash on the first floor to the right of centre, and a 16-pane sash with 8-pane sidelights on the ground floor to the left. The doorway, located to the right of centre, is flanked by a 20th-century porch with columns. The uneven plinth suggests that the front may have been rebuilt, possibly in the 18th century. The window above the door is narrower and features a 16-pane sash, while the other windows are 20-pane sashes. There is an external chimney breast in stages on the left gable end, with a roofed quadrant over the projection. The upper end has a lateral stone chimney at the rear and a tall, round-headed early 19th-century stair window. An adjacent projection linked to the wing is likely an earlier stair turret. The interior has not been inspected.
