Description

Treverbyn Farmhouse, along with its garden wall, iron railings, and gate, dates from the 17th century with 19th century additions. The building is constructed from shale rubble and cob, topped with Delabole slate gable roofs and features brick and stone chimneys. It has a three-room plan with a stair turret at the front and late 19th century service wings at the rear. The front is stuccoed and consists of two storeys with a three-window range. The windows include 12-pane sashes on the upper floor and a 16-pane sash with sidelights on the ground floor to the right. The left-hand window has been converted into a door with a 20th century glazed porch. The doorway, located to the right of centre, is framed by a gabled glazed porch. A prominent gabled stair turret is positioned to the left of centre, featuring a large 16-pane sash and a slight projection at the lower end to the right. The first floor windows are also 16-pane sashes. The brick chimneys rise over the gables, with an external breast on the upper end. The central room is served by a 17th century external rear lateral chimney, which was built in stages. The roof has been raised around 1900 but still follows the slope of the land. Inside, there is a wide dog leg stair with a trip step in the turret, although the balusters have been removed. The fireplaces are blocked or partly blocked, but several 18th century two-panel doors remain. The front garden features flanking walls that connect to a low granite-coped wall with iron railings adorned with fleur de lys finials. The iron gate is supported by granite monolithic piers topped with granite pyramidal caps.
