Description

Nansough Manor is an early 19th-century manor house constructed of granite ashlar with a tiled roof and brick chimneys. It is situated in Ladock. The house is planned around a central stair and is of classical style, with two storeys and three windows. Cellar openings are visible in the plinth. The central bay projects forward, featuring a semi-circular arched doorway with a projecting key block and moulded cornice above. A fanlight over the door has intersecting curved glazing bars. The windows are sash windows with sidelights in slightly arched openings, each featuring voussoirs and projecting key blocks. First-floor windows are narrower than those on the ground floor; all have a moulded cornice above and are topped by a parapet with plain coping. The double roof has a low pitch and is largely concealed. Chimneys are located on the gables and connected by a horizontal plain coping that conceals the valley. A rear cob house is linked to the main house by a 19th-century wing. Inside, the entrance hall has early 19th-century acanthus-enriched cornices and moulded ceiling bands with scroll decoration. A room to the right features a trailing strawberry motif. The open-well stair in the back hall has turned newels, plain square balusters, and a ramped handrail. The doors are four-panelled with panelled reveals. The older part of the house contains an open hearth with an arched oak lintol and a separate bread oven. A pig trundle, used for salting, is set into a window recess. A rear wall enclosing a courtyard is topped with scantle slate coping.
